28.12.22 | Hello! PETER CAPALDI and JODIE WHITTAKER sections updated That now finishes off the navigation updates for the site before... T H E B I G M O V E! Sorry, dramatic flourish! Yeah, moving to a new domain with new layout, new navigation and a LOT of new content, including for the first time, BluRay covers! I know, behind the times, but I hope you'll find it's worth it. I've had quite a lot of mail wanting BluRay covers, and I've got other covers including box sets, new templates and even audio stuff to come, so please give me time and I'll try and make it worth your while! Best wishes for the New Year Martin |

& VHS covers for FLUX #6: THE VANQUISHERS Well, half the universe destroyed, who knows how many people died, and what did it achieve? Very little! We still don't know when, where, how or what for the Doctor did to Swarm and Azure in the first place. And the ending with Time seemd a little too END OF TIME to me. Didn't even get rid of the Daleks since they're back at New Year! (Seems Chibnall hasn't learnt Daleks don't guarantee viewing figures. Well, not any more...) In the end, I'd have to say FLUX was a bit of a mess, 5 out of 10 overall. I hope we get a coherant end for JODIE's Doctor, but I'm not holding my breath... |

& VHS covers for FLUX #5: SURVIVORS OF THE FLUX Apart from messing up the UNIT & Brigadier timelines even more, thie episode really pulled in too many different directions which I'm not sure Chibnall is good enough to properly resolve in the finale. Unless he does a Dallas with its 'Bobby Ewing shower scene' to wind back time so all of this never happened... Cop-out, but wouldn't surprise me. After all, we lost enough universe in LOGOPOLIS thanks to the Master's meddling - now there's even less of it! |

New Year! That was a stinker of a year wasn't it? Here's hoping this year we get on top of the situation and move on with our lives Anyway, here we go! DVD & VHS covers for REVOLUTION OF THE DALEKS Corrected DVD & VHS covers for THE TIMELESS CHILDREN Thought the Special wasn't bad, though still a bit of a 'greatest hits' job. But what's with the 'Introducing John Bishop'? Surely they're not recasting the Master again? Could it be the Meddling Monk? Must be someone from the Doctor's past, or why tease him? Well, we'll see some time this year since it says '2021'... Bye for now! Martin |

UPDATE #10*** Finally! MATT SMITH section fully updated (0.3 Gb of new/updated covers!) There may be extra SMITH covers to follow (much later!) as there are some logo variants for some stories I should really provide. That's not urgent though! With all that's happened since the end of the series, I wouldn't be surprised if the Christmas / New Year special doesn't get put back to next spring / Easter instead - the number of productions vying for facilities when the lockdown ends will be ridiculous. I imagine the series will also get put back to Autumn 2021, but that's no one's fault. It still needs work, but as long as Chibnall continues to build on this series' type of stories, it could get back to full power. Whether it'll be too late for the ratings by then, of course, is another thing entirely. Still can't decide how to update navigation for the site - am on Plan F currently and not sure about that! While I want it to look smart and classy, it doesn't seem to lend itself to easier navigation than what I've got now... Ho hum. I will carry on working at it. See you around and stay safe! Martin |

& VHS covers for THE TIMELESS CHILDREN Okay... Well, that was interesting! I know a lot of fans are going to be up in arms over this, but I think it actually *doesn't* ruin past continuity, as long as you take it that, as the Timeless Child and 'Brendan', the Doctor was *NOT* the Doctor, but a previous personality in the same body (okay, over a lot of incarnations, granted) I think the Doctor doesn't become the Doctor until *after* the Division / CIA wipe 'Brendan's mind, forced him to regenerate into a child (as the Master had done as related in UTOPIA) and then grows up with the history we already know about. Everything about setting up Time Lord society, limiting regens to 12 etc. is still fine. And giving out further regeneration cycles has long since been mooted/ actually done. It even sort of gives us a get-out for the 'Morbius Doctors' - Morbius saw them for what they were, previous incarnations of the entity he was 'mind-bending' with and assumed they were previous 'Doctors'. Now instead we can say they were previous 'Brendans'. The Doctor wouldn't recognise them and would assume they were previous Morbius incarnations. After all, he didn't know him that well did he? All we need to bear in mind is the Entity we know as The Doctor had previous lives with another personality - 'Brendan' (we don't get told what Tecteun names the Timeless Child, so that name will have to do for now...) Same body, two different people. Doesn't nullify anything. It could've been a lot worse - Chibnall could have said categorically ALL the incarnations were the Doctor doing dodgy work for the Division, something the character would hate and also ALL the incarnations were pre-Hartnell Doctors. Now that REALLY would have knackered everything. Chances are there will be something to elaborate on this where Brendan did do something for them or refused to do, hence the mind wipe and new regeneration cycle, becoming the Doctor. That's what I think anyway! A few other things I was a bit iffy about, like shifting the rift to Gallifrey, experimenting on a child (not PC is it?) and Cybermen regenerating - okay, they were made out of the bodies of dead Time Lords, but that's the point, they were DEAD! If they could still regenerate, surely they would've and got the hell out of there in the spare TARDISes when the Master's back was turned? These were my problems with it, not the ret-coning of the Doctor's origins. Anyway, series over, for good or ill. Much improved across the board - I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Next stop Daleks! MATT SMITH update coming very soon now - honest! Cheers Martin |

& VHS covers for ASCENSION OF THE CYBERMEN Mmm... Not sure about this episode. A lot of good points, like the new Cyberman design and the Ashad Cyberman is a great character. But a lot - and maybe too many - things in the mix. The Timeless Child, The Master, ruined Gallifrey - and who or what is Brendan the Irish man who survives a fall and gunshot without a scratch, then is overpowered and 'wiped' by his stepfather and police officer, who haven't aged a day? I know Chibnall's got 65 minutes to wrap this up, but he's going to need every second to do it properly. I hope he's up to it - and he doesn't break the series' history doing it... At the minute, I'm apprehensive... |

& VHS covers for CAN YOU HEAR ME? It was a bit average for me, about the same as ORPHAN 55, but it wasn't terrible. I think there was a good idea in there, it just got lost in the execution. Still, I think next week ought to have something good to work with, whether the Cybermen feature ahead of the final two-parter or not. |

27.01.20 | DVD
& VHS covers for FUGITIVE OF THE JUDOON I thought this was going to be a pretty ordinary episode - I mean, the Judoon are pretty much one-track foes after all. But, with the cameo from you-know-who setting up stuff for the rest of the season and then the last 20+ minutes sending things all timey-wimey, I have to wonder if RTD or Moffat aren't back wearing Chibnall and Patel skinsuits! Judging by the credits, we haven't seen the last of this new character (sorry, keeping off the spoilers!), but I really liked her and look forward to more! This season really has got back to form - for me - after last series' debacle! |

& VHS covers for ORPHAN 55 I didn't have high hopes for this since the same writer did IT TAKES YOU AWAY - I know, I seem to be in a minority on that! - but I have to say this was pretty good. No doubt everyone else will hate it! Looking forward to the Tesla episode and pleased to see Team TARDIS finally get into period garb... except the Doctor. Damn! |

03.01.20 | DVD
& VHS covers for SPYFALL Part One HURRAH! Chibnall has finally found the manual on how to write a decent story - of his own! It did feel a bit like a RTD era story, but that's no bad thing as long as the story's good Sacha Dhawan's Master did feel very like John Simm's from that time, and I could see Simm doing the same dialogue in the 'reveal' scene, but that's fine too (I'm going to assume for the moment he's inbetween Simm and Missy?) I really am back to looking forward to the next episode now, which last year I certainly wasn't. So far I'm optimistic that the series is back on track, but let's wait and see... I'm *still* working on my MATT SMITH update, sorry, but hopefully that will be here fairly soon. No dates though... Happy New Year/Decade! Martin |

& VHS covers for RESOLUTION Okay, I take it back. This was probably Chibnall's best story But is it me? I thought I'd seen a lot of it before somewhere... DALEK for instance? Don't get me wrong - this was his best story, but if he really is serious about not relying on old foes, his own have got to much better than they have been. I also suspect the BBC will force him to do a special in time for Christmas 2019 - I think they're starting to regret giving him so much lattitude and really if RTD & SM can do them with longer seasons, why can't he? It doesn't have to be Christmas-themed - usually they're better when they're not IMHO I'm working on my MATT SMITH update now, so hopefully that will be here in the none too distant future. Happy New Year! Martin |

10.12.18 | DVD
& VHS covers for THE BATTLE OF RANSKOOR AV KOLOS This was probably Chibnall's best story this series, but then a series finale should be decent. That said, I have quite a few issues with it, not least the summoning of the TARDIS without much effort seemingly - how many times could a plot have been solved before by have it appear and everybody just pile in? Without it, the Doctor's fix was dead in the water Overall, I can't hand on heart give this new series the ringing endorsement so many others seem keen to do. A couple of great episodes, neither by Chibnall, and a lot of average to mediocre ones. The main cast are fine, although Mandip Gill is criminally underused. Jodie and Bradley are definitely the bright points. I'll give the series 5 out of 10 max - Chibnall, you really are going to have to do better. But then, you're going to have plenty of time aren't you...???!!! |
|||
03.12.18 | DVD
& VHS covers for IT TAKES YOU AWAY It was okay, but was a bit patchy. I just wish if we were going to have a '2001' moment at the end, we'd got something other than the frog - or at least a better CGI frog, that one was as bad if not worse than the Pting... In fact, I would have expected 'Granny Five' myself... So, how will Chibnall round things off? Hopefully with something better than he's written so far - the best episodes have all been by other people IMHO... See you next week! |
|||
26.11.18 | DVD
& VHS covers for THE WITCHFINDERS I did have a few issues with this episode, but overall it still proved rule 'No interference from Chibnall and a better episode it will be.' One more solo effort this coming week and then he returns to close the season. I only hope he hasn't closed it for good, given rumours of JODIE departing sooner rather than later etcetera... |

& VHS covers for DEMONS OF THE PUNJAB Hurrah, Chibnall's done something right... He didn't tamper with someone else's story! Seriously, I mean that - this is the first story solely written by someone else, and it showed. I'm not saying it was perfect, but it was by far the best so far, ROSA being the closest. I hope that means this series is finally getting its act together... |

I
have to say, at this halfway point in the season, that while I think the cast are great, with plaudits going to JODIE and BRADLEY, the stories are lacking, laboured and are not worth the extra running time IMHO. Out of ten, I'd give the first half of the season a four. I've heard rumours the Christmas Special has been scrapped because of a 'lack of ideas'. If the season so far is an indicator, I can believe it. For God's sake Chibnall, do something! |

16.10.18 | How
many different versions of this bloody logo are there going to be?! I reckon it's up to five now - black, white, yellow, on fire/singed and now copper beveled reflecting the background - and that's not including they don't know whether to use it stripped or with DOCTOR on top of WHO, as used at the Sheffield 'red carpet' bash and on some of the new books Big sigh!!! So, I have re-done my initial covers using an HD frame grab of the logo from the title sequence - not sold on most of that either, first and last bits good, middle (where the logo is) is a bit underwhelming. Anyway... DVD & VHS covers for THE GHOST MONUMENT and THE WOMAN WHO FELL TO EARTH (updated) |

UPDATE #9*** Well, just made it! DAVID TENNANT section fully updated (0.6 Gb of new/updated covers!) Good luck to JODIE WHITTAKER on her debut tomorrow. I know I've been rather down on this series, but I don't blame her personally for the negatives I've seen so far, and I will be watching the full series regardless. I just hope Chibnall delivers, because I would hate for the series to die now and for it all to be blamed on her, which would be most unfair. I'll be updating the site as soon as I can after each episode airs with covers, though with it moving to Sunday nights that's not as easy as previously. I hope you'll look back for what I produce. Bye for now! Martin |

25.09.18 | Sorry,
been a little busy to comment on the recent trailers 'Glass ceiling'? Subtle as a brick. 'It's About Time'? Second brick... Second proper trailer? Hurrah, something decent! Still not much to show, music pretty rubbish, but a lot better overall. I'll give it 7 out of 10. I've heard rumours the TARDIS doesn't even appear in episode 1, so am not holding my breath. Chibnall - you still have an awful lot of convincing to do here. PLEASE - don't break our favourite show! The last thing I want to write is DOCTOR WHO 1963 - 2017. Prove me wrong... PLEASE! |
|||
20.07.18 | Why
didn't they just show the Comic-Con trailer on BBC One in the first place at the weekend? For those who don't know, it landed on the channel just before 7pm (UK) tonight. Either the World Cup build-up should have been for that, or they should have left it alone and just dropped it tonight anyway. I think the World Cup 'thing' was just a ploy to get more viewers for the football and will certainly have done the series no good. I hope the cost of making it came out of Worldwide's promotional budget, not the series' own budget, as it could definitely been better spent on the series proper. Here's hoping there's no more blunders before the series finally starts! Hope to have the new DAVID TENNANT content up then, although running into a few issues coding the new layout, so that part of the update will propably get put back, sorry! Bye for now Martin |
|||
19.07.18 | BREATHES
SIGH OF RELIEF! Thank God the Comic-Con trailer delivered! Now, that is what I call a PROPER trailer! A proper voiceover from Jodie, good footage from upcoming episodes and even proper dialogue from her Doctor! The thing is... Joe Public won't have seen this, only the cr*p from the weekend - by putting that out instead of this, have they killed Joe Public's interest? Time alone will tell. I am now a *lot* more confident Chibnall's not going to make a mess of it, but we're not out of the woods yet! |

UPDATE #8*** The New Series begins! CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON section fully updated (0.1 Gb of new/updated covers!) Next time, I'll be updating the DAVID TENNANT section, which I hope will be before the new series starts. At that point, I will be giving the site a makeover to bring it into line with the new logo (even though I hate it...) so hope to see you then. Bye for now! Martin |
