PPS List September 2005

During the middle of last week
(sorry for the late update, been rather busy!)

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of one of our video interview subjects, Michael Sheard.
He was 65 and had been suffering from cancer.

Dave and I will remember with great fondness the day we spent filming our video with him,
The Life - In A Day - of Michael Sheard, in particular his warmth, kindness, ability to talk at length about all aspects of his life and career and his sheer professionalism in helping us record an interview that was not without its technical hitches! Throughout it all, Michael was a consumate professional and a joy to work with.

Michael Sheard - a friend to PPS, much missed.

We first met him on the convention circuit - the photo above is of Michael and I (with beard) at Cult TV in 1999 not many weeks before we recorded our interview with him -
where he was a firm favourite due to his many genre appearances. His famous party piece on the dance floor to the track "School's Out" by Alice Cooper was a popular part of any convention party

He is survived by his wife Ros and three children and our condolences go to them on Michael's passing. We will miss him too.

A full tribute will be mailed to members along with Issue 30 of the magazine,
due in the next couple of weeks.

He may only be a cabbie, and he may have lost his wife Marion to her lover, but is Keith downhearted?

Geoff's Marion's lover by the way.
Just thought we'd best get that straight...

It has been four years since we reviewed our membership fees and in that time
postage costs have changed, so today I am posting the new details of membership costs
effective February 1st
.

To offset the increased costs of joining there are some additional benefits
for members, such as extra issues of the magazine. We hope that anyone interested
in joining will still feel that PPS is worth every penny.

Oh dear, this list seems to be cursed!

It has come to my attention with the final mailing this month that a small number of lists have been issued to members with a blank page where two member's entries should have been.

My apologies to members
ANDREW SCREEN and STEPHEN SHAW for this error by the photocopier which has now been kicked!

Apart from a change of membership number, we would like to inform members that there are no other changes to Andrew's and Stephen's entries from the previous list in August
.

Our apologies if you have received one of the duff copies - if any member with one would like a 'proper' copy, please email me.

Finally, after rather too many delays, the new Members List has started to go out to current members. Most copies went in the post today (22nd January) and copies to members who have just renewed recently, together with the copy of Radio TellyScope issue 26 that they are due, will be posted to them on Monday together with the copies of the list for our current overseas members.

Our sincere apologies to our members for this delay; the responsible parties have been rebuked, tortured and finally subjected to a 24 hour continuous showing of
The Weakest Link and are unlikely to want to endure that again - ever...

An additional List Survey has also been sent out in order to gain information from all current members without collection or interest details. This Survey also has the bonus of being an entry into a draw for £50 (or equivalent for overseas members) of vouchers, so we hope to get a large return to make the List even more use to current members when it is mailed in the future.

Mini pic of Issue 26

The first issue of Radio TellyScope for 2005 has just been sent out to members and hopefully most of you should have received it by today.

A new year and a new 'retro' look to go with the change to bi-monthly from quarterly and the reduced number of pages - but still with a good mix of articles!

As you are undoubtedly aware, over tens of thousands of people lost their lives on the morning of Sunday, December 26th when a massive earthquake caused tsunamis along thousands of miles of coastline in the Indian Ocean.

The UK aid agencies launched a unified appeal for cash donations via the
Disasters Emergency Committee and we at PPS added our support to them by
including a link to the DEC website for donations to be made.

As the appeal has now been scaled down, we have now discontinued our
link to their site.

Thank you for your help with the appeal.

The first competition of the New Year for the PPS website is now up and running!

Some of you may have seen over the Christmas period the
final story of
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and very good I
hear it was too.

However, there's still chance to look back on the lads'
antics with this splendid BBC book that we're
offering
